WELCOMING REMARKS

by Paul Malley,
President

In my eight years at Aging with Dignity, including four years as president, I have had the pleasure of working with an incredibly talented and dedicated staff and Board of Directors. I was drawn to this organization because I believe deeply in its mission. As a child I had the privilege of being with and caring for my grandparents during times of great suffering, to watch them go through the difficult process of aging, and to see the great comfort they received from a single touch, or a short visit. Later I would learn that this is the definition of compassion – to “suffer with” and accompany another person on their journey. It is my great honor to lead this organization and its efforts to help families across America care for their loved ones with compassion and dignity.

We are grateful for the many individuals who support our work, the foundations that provide much-needed resources, and the organizations that distribute our materials. This support has helped us reach millions of people in just a short time. To those of us who do the daily work of Aging with Dignity, our success is not measured only in numbers, but in the stories of lives that have been touched by our mission and our programs.

Never have I been more convinced of the importance and relevance of our work at Aging with Dignity. With the 78 million baby boomers beginning to retire, we have just begun to see the many challenges facing our society as we care for our growing senior population. As we reach this milestone of our 10th anniversary, we celebrate our success while recognizing that the need for our work is greater than ever. With your continued support, we will carry on with our mission to bring dignity and compassion to those among us who are in greatest need… one heart, one soul, one person, and one family at a time.
